Living in Dallas is a great option, and this is what everyone would agree. Dallas is unique and asks that to any of the Texans, and you will find pleasant reasons. To start with, if you are moving into Dallas, you have plenty of places as well. However, before we go on heaping praises, let us answer the fundamental question. Is Dallas a city where you can afford to go car-free and still survive?
Yes, you can go car-free in Dallas. The city has a very advanced transportation system already, and these days, it has only improved. So how has it evolved, and what are the options you have?
Public Transport
The first option is that of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit or DART. It began its operation in 1999 and has been the ideal choice to travel across the city. The public bus and the train system are functional and quite affordable as well. With these, you can travel from your work to home.
Also, these work round the clock and will not burn your pocket as you travel from Mockingbird Station to any shopping area in Texas or even hop in from Oak Lawns. Their streetcar service connects Downtown Dallas with Oak Cliff. The entire stretch runs through 1.6 miles and has many vibrant neighborhoods and spots worth traveling.
Go Bike
A great option to travel across Dallas would be by bike. Just hope into one, and the roads provide the best reason to burn some calories as you reach your destination. The culture and mood of the people help them to go on these bike rides with ease. The Katy Trail is a wonderful place to go on a relaxing and exploration. Also, it does not harm the environment. So, you have more reasons to like traveling and exploring or simply going for errands at the nearby grocery store.
Walk On
As a city with plenty of green hubs and nice landmark locations around, you will need no special reason to walk. There are plenty of spots for you to explore on foot. You may want to know your locality, especially if you have just moved to Dallas’s downtown or Henderson. People usually prefer walking on foot a lot, and you will also find someone to say a ‘Hi’ now.
Also, book stores, cafes, and eateries may make staying in Dallas quite comfortable.
Few Points to Note
Like any other place in Texas, Dallas is hot, humid in summer, and cold in winter. So, in summer, especially if you intend to walk to work, carry your water bottle and sunshades.
Look for a place of accommodation near your workplace. It will save a lot of effort and money on transport. Do not worry about whether you have a car or not while commuting to and from the workplace.
Do not forget to explore and take every chance at knowing something more than the previous day about the city.
